The Care Quality Commission

The CQC: "It's an independent, open judgement you can trust"

video description

1. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates health and adult social care in England and should ensure its quality. It has a duty to ensure people detained under section are treated correctly.
2. Since 2016, I have written several times to the CQC and to its chief executives: Sir David Behan, Mr Ian Trenholm and Sir Julian Hartley. I reported:
(i). my unlawful detention
(ii). many instances of mistreatment, some of them supported by clear proof, including CCTV footage.
3. In 2018, I noticed an unfamiliar person on the ward, carrying a clipboard. I asked her what she was doing. She was from the CQC, carrying out an inspection of the Hospital. I told her I wished to speak to her before she left.
(i). I explained to her I was detained without a valid diagnosis and on unreasonable claims that I am dangerous. I offered her clear proof supporting such statements. She said she would report my concerns to the CQC.
4. A few weeks later, I discovered the Hospital's appraisal of the visit by the CQC:
(i). It claimed patients were happy and satisfied with the performance of the Hospital.
(ii). There was no mention of my case or complaints.
5. I wrote to Mr Trenholm, Chief Executive of the CQC, asking why my concerns had been ignored. No action was taken.
6. On the whole, the CQC's response has been an abiding naivety that must be feigned: simply to accept unquestioningly whatever the Hospital told it and to ignore my evidence.
(i). One of the hospitals against which I filed a complaint was under special measures. The CQC was as careless with that Complaint as with the others.
(a). One of the complaints against that Hospital was unsanitary and demeaning conditions, that appear deliberately to have been created. The CQC ignored these entirely.
